The phrase "Doing More with Less" is the most Cringe of phrases. As a manager, it's easy to panic and think about the longer work hours, increased workload, and overwhelming stress that you and your employees may be experiencing. We often personalize these feelings and often overwhelm ourselves. The bigger question is, how can we handle this situation? We focus on the solution, not the problem.

To effectively manage this, it's crucial to negotiate workload, communicate urgent requests, and define what tasks are a priority. It's also important to regroup and evaluate work projects regularly. Managers should avoid requesting urgent tasks without following up and providing feedback. You want to encourage and motivate during stressful times. It was important for me to recognize my anxiety and step into the solution.

Here are some tips to help manage the "Do More with Less" situation:

  • Check in to ensure employees are mentally clear and engaged.

  • Establish a clear vision for critical tasks. Communicate in detail.

  • Review urgent needs and provide feedback and support.

While these tips may not solve all problems, prioritization and communication are key to success.
